The Heart of Ohio Ferret Association and Rescue
Members of The Heart of Ohio Ferret Association and Rescue in Columbus, Ohio, provide quality educational activities for ferret lovers, as well as supporting rescue services for ferrets in need of a home.

The club sponsors several events each year in addition to its monthly meetings. At the Annual Picnic the end or July or the first of August, the club hosts a rabies clinic and ADD check with the help of a veterinarian, as well as seminars presented by AFA judges on How To Show Your Ferret.

The Ferret Buckeye Bash the end of August is the club’s major fundraiser for the rescue shelter. More than 300 ferret lovers attended in 2003.

The club also sponsors several outings during the year, as well as participating in area Renaissance Festivals.

Members of the club receive many benefits such as reduced prices for food, cages and other equipment. Scarlett Gray-Saling, Shelter Director and Event Chairperson, says the rescue services, called “Rescue-Net,” includes foster homes that take care of ferrets until they are adopted.

Prospective ferret owners must complete a questionnaire that helps determine if they will be a good match. Then after a 14-day trial period, new owners are issued an adoption certificate. Adoption fees range from $35 to $125, depending on the age and health of the ferret, as well as a reduced fee to adopt a bonded pair. The adoption fee covers the cost of the ferret’s vaccinations, ADD check and other expenses.
